The month of June was a fun month where we enjoyed many big series and saw the conclusion of some such as Maitreyi Ramakrishnan’s Never Have I Ever Season 4 where Devi graduates from her high school and also finds her soulmate in Ben. We also saw the controversial Sam Levinson directorial series The Idol starring an ensemble cast of popular actors and musicians such as The Weeknd, Lily Rose-Depp and Blackpink singer Jennie. This month we are all set to start our month with the fun animated anthology series based on African cultures and end it with the dark and gritty The Witcher Season 3 Vol. 2.

Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire

Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire is an African futurist animated anthology short film series produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios. There are ten futuristic visions that are inspired by the cultures and histories of the continent in this action-packed animated sci-fi anthology. New animation creators use African perspectives to imagine brave new worlds filled with aliens, spirits, and monsters.

There are ten creators from various parts of Africa, including Ahmed Teilab from Egypt, Simangaliso ‘Panda’ Sibaya and Malcolm Wope from South Africa, Terence Maluleke and Isaac Mogajane from South Africa, Ng’endo Mukii from Kenya, Shofela Coker from Nigeria, Nthato Mokgata and Catherine Green from South Africa, Pious Nyenyewa and Tafadzwa Hove from Zimbabwe, Tshepo Moche from South Africa, Raymond Malinga from Uganda, and Lesego Vorster from South Africa.

The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 (Part 1)

Cast: Manuel Garcia-Rulfo,Neve Campbell, Becki Newton, Angus Sampson, Jazz Raycole, Krista Warner, Lana Parrilla, Yaya DaCosta

Based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling novels, this series follows the iconoclastic idealist who runs his law practice from his Lincoln Town Car. The second season of the show is an adaptation of Michael Connelly’s novel, The Fifth Witness, where Mickey Haller ventures into foreclosure defence and takes on the case of Lisa Trammell, who is charged with the murder of a wealthy individual. Despite believing in his client’s guilt, Mickey strives to clear her name. However, as the case unfolds, Mickey uncovers the victim’s illicit dealings, putting himself in harm’s way.

Survival of the Thickest

Cast: Michelle Buteau, Tone Bell, Tasha Smith and Christine Horn

Survival of the Thickest is a comedy-drama series, created by Michelle Buteau and Danielle Sanchez Witzel and is based on a memoir with the same name. The show revolves around the life of Mavis Beaumont, an African-American woman who is plus-sized and has just gotten over a breakup. As she tries to move on and start afresh, she encounters unforeseen challenges that hinder her progress.

The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 2

Cast: Lola Tung, Gavin Casalegno and Christopher Briney

Based on the book by Jenny Han, The Summer I Turned Pretty is back with its second season. According to the official synopsis, the series follows, “Belly Conklin is about to turn 16, and she’s headed to her favourite place in the world, Cousins Beach, to spend the summer with her family and the Fishers. Belly’s grown up a lot over the past year, and she has a feeling that this summer is going to be different than all the summers before.”

What We Do in the Shadows Season 5

Cast: Kayvan Novak, Matt Berry, Harvey Guillén, Natasia Demetriou, and Mark Proksc

The highly anticipated fifth season of What We Do in the Shadows is set to make its return. This time, the spotlight shines on Guillermo’s remarkable transformation, while Nandor, Lazlo, and their fellow vampires grow increasingly wary and suspicious.

Justified: City Primeval

Cast: Timothy Olyphant

Continuing from the story of the 2010 series Justified, the miniseries is developed by showrunners Dave Andron and Michael Dinner. The series also takes inspiration from the Elmore Leonard novel City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. It continues with Raylan Givens leaving Kentucky for Miami, where he works as a US Marshal while raising his daughter. He soon finds himself in Detroit, where he is looking for The Oklahoma Wildman, Clement Mansell, who has been dodging Detroit police.

Sweet Magnolias Season 3

Cast: JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Brooke Elliott, Heather Headley, Logan Allen, Anneliese Judge, Carson Rowland, Justin Bruening, Chris Klein, Jamie Lynn Spears, Dion Johnstone and Brandon Quinn.

Sweet Magnolias follows the story of three friends and is back with the third season. The official synopsis of the series reads, “Following the brawl at Sullivan’s, Maddie wrestles with the best way to help Cal and works to clear her own emotional path. Helen faces difficult decisions about the men in her life. And Dana Sue searches for a way to use Miss Frances’ check to help the community, without upending her family. The Witcher Season 3 (Volume 2)

Cast: Henry Cavill, Freya Allan and Anya Chalotra

This will be the last season where we will see Henry Cavill as Geralt. In an interview, the executive producer Steve Gaub said that the two volumes were inspired by Stranger Things. He said, “In a streaming world, cliffhangers don’t really exist because you’re hitting [next episode].”

Good Omens Season 2

Cast: David Tennant, Michael Sheen, Miranda Richardson

Based on Neil Gaiman based on his and Terry Pratchett’s 1990 novel of the same name, Good Omens returns for a second season. The official synopsis reads, “Now exiled from Heaven and Hell, Aziraphale and Crowley must team up once again after the mysterious arrival of a familiar face.”
