Roger Mathews has broken his silence at last.
The now-officially-former husband of Jersey Shore cast member Jenni “JWoww” Farley spoke to Us Weekly about his recent divorce from the reality star, which transpired just a few days ago and which put an end to a very cantakerous split.
Seriously, it got ugly at times.
“Thursday 8-29-19 I was officially divorced and I’m excited for what the future brings as a single dad,” Mathews told this tabloid, touching on his past while looking ahead to his future:
“Although this last year was the toughest ones of my life in almost every way it was also one of tremendous growth and one that tested my human spirit.”
It was almost exactly 12 months ago that Farley announced she was splitting from her husband of three years.
The ex-couple shares a five-year old daughter named Meilani and a three-year old son named Greyson.
The latter has been diagnosed with Autism — and sources have indicated that Roger’s failure to accept this diagnosis played a huge role in the pair’s break-up.
Despite how his marriage turned out, Mathews tells Us Weekly he has “little regrets regarding the last 9 years of my life,” mostly due to the presence of these children.
“You can’t have the good without the bad and I’m so looking forward to so many positive things with my kids,” he said, adding:
“They are who kept me grounded and focused through it all and they have always been my priority and focus. Jenni and I will forever be tied by two beautiful children we love so much and I am sure we will coparent amazing together.”
Still, like we said, everything turned very ugly between Mathews and Farley late last year and early this year.
At one point, Farley was granted a restraining order against her estranged husband after they got into a heated exchange inside their kitchen.
Mathews immediately recorded a number of videos he posted to Instagram, slamming Jenni at time as a liar and a manipulator and as someone who cares more about her job than her kids.
In February, after Farley alleged that Mathews had assaulted her, Roger actually wrote an open letter to JWoww.
He pleaded for peace between the exes in this letter — but also admitted to getting physical with her at one point.
You can read passages from the letter here:
Despite the bitter nature of their split, however, along with the accusations hurled back and forth, all now appears to be calm between Mathews and Farley.
They spent Easter as a family and are hopefully dedicated to nothing but the well-being of their son and daughter.
The MTV personality, meanwhile, has since moved on with her boyfriend, Zack Clayton Carpinello, and Mathews tells Us that he wishes her “nothing but the best, truly.”
He sounds sincere, too.
“It takes far more effort and energy to be negative than to be positive and that’s my focus both for myself and my children,” Mathews concludes in this interview.
“Positive growth. Onwards and upwards! God bless.”
