BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said the government’s move to introduce Cyber Security Act through changing the name of Digital Security Act is tantamount to “deceiving people”.
“BNP firmly believes that the Awami League government is trying to deceive the people by merely changing name of Digital Security Act,” Fakhrul said at a press conference at the party chairperson’s Gulshan office around noon.
He said the BNP wants complete repeal of Digital Security Act. “This law goes against the principles of democracy, human rights, and media freedom. There is no question of keeping it.”
Fakhrul said replacing the DSA with Cyber Security Act is an attempt by the government to befool the people.
He said there is international pressure over the DSA. “This is only an attempt to make them [foreigners]understand.”
“We know their [Awami League]character. They are controlling the freedom of expression,” he added.
Following a Cabinet meeting, Law Minister Anisul Huq yesterday said the government decided to “transform” and “modernise” the DSA, and change its name to Cyber Security Act.
