There was a long time in which Jana Duggar was among the least-controversial members of her famous family.
Sarcastic, self-deprecating, and unwilling to submit to life as a baby-making slave to an overbearing husband, Jana served as a stand-in for viewers who tuned into Counting On in order to gawk at the fundamentalist freak show that is life on the Duggar compound.
But for the arch-conservatives who make up the majority of the Duggars’ fan base, Jana represents a departure from the values and traditions that drew them to the show.
Obviously, these two demographics have very little in common.
But now, in an unlikely turn of events, they’ve both taken to offering unsolicited advice to Jana, whose best efforts to remain below the radar of her family’s nuttiest fans have sadly proven to be in vain.
Yes, it seems both the haters and the obsessives share the opinion that Jana needs to stop being such move out of her parents’ house and stop being such a freakin’ millennial.
And because this is the internet in 2019, these people have no qualms about sharing that opinion with her.
Earlier this week, Jana posted a photo of a picturesque sunset taken near the home she still shares with her parents and several of her younger siblings.
“Love this place I get to call home!” she captioned the pic.
Apparently incensed by the idea of a young woman enjoying a sunset, the trolls began to swarm en masse.
“When you gonna grow up and leave? I mean you’re almost 30. You gonna play Cinderella your whole life?” one follower wrote, as noted by In Touch Weekly.
“Have you ever even for a moment considered getting a home of your own and living your own life?” another remarked.
“Have you ever thought of moving out in your own? (I’m not asking in a rude manner — I lived at home with my family until was in my 30’s before I met my husband),” a third remarked.
“In a way, I wish I would have the experience of feeling completely self-sufficient? … just curious is all … I don’t see anything wrong with staying where you are or anything,” the cloying commenter continued.
“Family is everything for sure!”
If you’re a fan of the Duggars, then you’re no doubt aware that much has been made of the fact that Jana is still single.
Many within their fundamentalist fan base consider this a sin, as they share the Duggars’ belief that procreation is a woman’s primary reason for being.
Then there are those on the other side, who buy into the myth that Jana is “the Cinderella Duggar,” forced to remain at home and help with the chores while her siblings start families of their own.
At least those people are concerned for Jana’s well-being, and not just the state of her uterus.
Still, they would do well to pause and consider the possibility that this is the path Jana has chosen, and she might be happy with her current lifestyle.
We know — that’s hard to fathom.
But then again, just about every aspect of the Duggars’ lifestyle is hard to fathom.
