Change the mindset
It all comes down to mindset. Majority of us only think about weddings as an occasion where there will be a lot of food, high chances of overeating, falling off the track, gaining weight. What if one changed the mindset and understood that there is a healthy and unhealthy way of sailing through weddings?
Tuck in a snack
You don’t want to enter a wedding feeling extremely hungry because chances are that you might eat anything that’s offered. Tuck in a small yet fulfilling snack just before you step out so that you can make comparatively healthier food choices. Having some soup or a handful of nuts before heading to a wedding does the trick.
Mind the chew
More than what you eat, it’s important to focus on how you eat. Making it a point to chew each bite of your food — healthy or unhealthy — makes it easier for you to not only digest it better but also avoid overeating. Eat but don’t overeat because your body will only use how much it needs. Chewing increases mindfulness and that helps you cut down food portions to a large extent. You can be at a wedding eating ice cream — but if you are doing this with utter mindfulness, relishing each bite and expressing gratitude — your body will know how to break it down.
Don’t save your appetite
Most wedding functions start late evening and how well you eat then depends on what you have eaten throughout the day. So, if you can’t get your dinner right, can you at least eat right during the day and make sure you get your fill of raw foods, fruits, vegetables, lentils, nuts, seeds and adequate hydration? It’s all about balance and compensation.
Intermittent fasting
During weddings you are bound to have late-night meals, so observing an intermittent fast right after your last meal is a great way to give your digestive system a much-needed break. This fast can extend for 10 hrs, 12 hrs or 16 hrs – whatever feels comfortable to you. Intermittent fasting allows you to have a good time but still make sure that you are respecting how your body works.
After the festivities, chances are that you may not wake up feeling hungry. Respect it. You don’t have to eat breakfast because feeling full from last night means that your body is still in the elimination phase. You can easily continue your intermittent fast. And if you feel hungry, try to focus on eating raw, especially if you have had a night of heavy drinking and are feeling acidic and sluggish.
