Coronavirus in Bollywood: Rajkummar Hirani Urges Film Industry To Help Daily Wage Workers

The worldwide catastrophe following the coronavirus outbreak has not only affected the health of people and taken the lives of many but has also resulted in businesses – big and small – being impacted. The global health crisis however has hit daily wage workers the hardest in countries all around the world. In light of this, various charity setups have come about to help their families who have faced a major blow financially. Bollywood insiders have also followed suit. The Producers Guild of India earlier announced a relief fund for workers affected by the shutdown. Ace filmmaker Rajkummar Hirani advocated the same on his social media handles while replying to a tweet by Indian spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar.

Taking to Twitter, Raju wrote, “I’m proud of the fact that film fraternity has come together for this vital initiative. This is perhaps as much needed as anything else during this crisis. I pledge to support this and request you all to contribute for daily wage earners. #iStandWithHumanity.” He was responding to Shankar’s post on the micro-blogging site which read, “To support daily wage earners during lockdown,
@ArtofLiving is providing a family’s ration for 10 days to a million families across the country. I appreciate the whole film & TV fraternity in joining this initiative.”

Retweeting Shankar’s post, Hirani then penned, “Let’s take care of the daily wage earners. Film fraternity has come together to help wholeheartedly. I pledge to contribute & support this initiative. Request you all to support the daily wage earners.” A statement on behalf of The Producers Guild of India earlier read, “The body has decided that it would set up a Relief Fund for daily wage earners impacted by the complete shutdown of film, television and OTT productions owing to the COVID-19 epidemic.” Many B-town stars have come forward to support the decision. From Alia Bhatt to Anushka Sharma and Farhan Akhtar, they have urged people to contribute and donate as much as they can.
