In St Martin’s island, several parts of the jetty’s pontoon have been damaged by the current. Some parts of the main jetty were also damaged. Dozens of houses in Delpara village on the island have been inundated by tidal water, our correspondent added.
Kutubdia Upazila Parishad Chairman Faridul Islam Chowdhury said, the area adjacent to the Paubor embankment in Ali Akbardel union has been flooded; many houses are now submerged.
Cox’s Bazar Water Development Board Management and Maintenance Engineer Prabir Kumar Goswami told The Daily Star that several points of embankment at Chaufaldandi, Gomatoli, Matarbari and Dhalghata in Cox’s Bazar Sadar were damaged by the tide today.
In Gomatoli, work is underway to stop the breakdown of embankment on an emergency basis with geotextile from today. Emergency measures are also being taken to prevent the breakage of the embankment at Chaufaldandi, he added.
