‘Highly disturbing’ that coronavirus has ‘triggered racism’
Sky News host Chris Kenny says it was “highly disturbing” to see Chief Medical Officer Brendan Murphy announce on Tuesday “the reaction to the coronavirus had triggered racism in this country”.
Mr Kenny said while the virus originates from Wuhan, China, there is no clear example of wide-spread anti-Chinese sentiment within the community.
“Now you and I know this country is not immune from racism, there’ll occasionally be some drunken or bitter loser who says and does the wrong thing,” he said.
“We also know there won’t be a large anti-Chinese backlash, we know as usual this country will be sensible, organised, tolerant and inclusive.
“Those who pretend otherwise are too often trying to blow their own trumpet at the expense of their fellow Australians.”
