Govt to give 10kg rice to more than 1 crore families on Eid

On the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha, the government will provide 10 kilogrammes of free rice to more than one crore extremely poor and helpless families under the VGF (Vulnerable Group Feeding) programme.

The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief sent a letter to the director general of Department of Disaster Management in this connection yesterday.

A total of 1,76,000.51 tonnes of VGF rice was allocated for 492 upazilas and 328 municipalities under 64 districts, said a ministry press release.  

The respective deputy commissioners of the district will notify about the allotted VGF rice to local lawmakers. 

This assistance would be given to the poor and extremely poor person or family. However, priority would be given to those people who were affected by the recent floods or other natural calamities.

The allotment letter states that the distribution needs to be ensured by July 19 in compliance with the allotted rice conditions after preparing a list.
