Youth arrested for severing Khatib’s hand in Barishal

Police have arrested a youth for severing the left hand and three fingers of the right hand of a Khatib at Birshreshtha Jahangir Nagar Union No-1 under Babuganj upazila of Barishal yesterday evening.

The arrestee Babul Majhi hacked Yakub Ali, khatib of Paschim Islampur Jame Masjid, and critically injured him, reports our Barishal correspondent quoting Md Mahbubur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Babuganj Police Station.

Following the incident, police arrested the youth while the victim was sent to Dhaka for better treatment after giving primary treatment at Barishal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital, added the OC.

When Babul wanted to stay at the mosque, the khatib barred him, which enraged him, the OC said quoting Babul.

Later, Babul hacked the khatib with a sharp weapon, added the OC.

The OC said Babul Majhi is a rickshaw puller based in Dhaka. He confessed to his involvement in the crime.
