Even before the lockdown was announced, television shoots were put on hold. While many shows continued to air fresh episodes for a couple of weeks, soon the bank of episodes exhausted. Most channels then opted to re-air popular past shows, in a bid to keep its audience entertained.
DD National was the first one to hit the rewind button as it announced the comeback of shows like Ramayan, Mahabharat, Shriman Shrimati, Circus, Byomkesh Bakshi and Fauji among more.
Other GECs followed suit and most slots today on television are dedicated to re-airs. Zee TV and Star Plus also went a step ahead and decided to air web series on the channel. Zee TV went in for ALTBalaji shows Kehne Ko Humsafar Hai, Baarish and Karrle Tu Bhi Mohabbat while Hotstar Specials original Hostages was aired on Star Plus.

As per the latest Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) ratings, last week saw total television viewership of 1.14 trillion viewing minutes.
