A Chattogram court today issued an arrest warrant against a police sergeant in a case filed over torturing his pregnant wife for dowry.
Chattogram Women and Child Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 Judge Begum Ferdous Ara, passed the order after receiving the probe report against the sergeant submitted by Mirsharai Upazila Women Affairs officer, said the plaintiff’s lawyer Sheikh Md Al Jabed, reports our Chattogram correspondent.
“The women affair’s officer found the proof of torture after probing the case,” said Adv Jabed.
According to the case statement, Iqbal who is attached to the Khulna District Police had physically tortured his wife Dr Sonia Samad to hand over her residential building and private car to him.
Sonia, on July 25, filed the case with Jorarganj Police Station in Chattogram city. Earlier on the same day following a phone call to 999, a team of Jorarganj police rescued her from her house.
