The ‘blushing’ bride manual – Times of India

Skincare rituals for the modern- day bride and groom go beyond homemade ubtans and kitchen cures. Yes, the mandatory DIY skincare rituals still exist but now the focus is on results that “show’’. This is where salons and hi-tech clinics come into the picture with a slew of options. But too many treatments on the beauty menu card is likely to confuse anyone especially to-be brides and grooms who have enough on their plate. You need guidance from beauty experts who can tell you what works and how well they work – and here’s where we step in.

The first essential step that forms the base of any skin therapy is a good beauty regimen. So other than the usual cleansing-toning-moisturising (CTM) routine, include oral supplements such as vitamin C tablets, collagen supplements and antioxidant oral polypodium leucotomos, which help to reduce the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays on skin. But for the right dosage, consult a dermatologist. Also, never ever skip sunscreen application – on face and body.

Hydrafacial: A popular deep-cleansing skin-exfoliating treatment, this is a boon for those with open pores, oily skin and blackheads. It removes excess sebum and all the dirt from the skin followed by nourishing serums applied to the skin to hydrate it and make it soft and smooth.

Intraceutical facial: Also known as “Oxygen facial” it shoots skin brightening serums through a high-pressured oxygen bubble into the skin to make it plump and even-toned. It also reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Laser photofacial: This facial removes tan, lightens pigmentation and acne scars. There are different kinds of photo facials – you need to check with your dermatologist to understand which one is for you.

NOTE: These facials do not have any downtime and brides/grooms can do this even few days before the wedding.

Chemical peels: To get rid of blemishes and pigmentation and also get instant radiance, skin peels are one of the best cosmetic treatments. There are several types of peels ranging in strength from mildly superficial to deeply resurfacing – alpha hydroxy acid peels, beta hydroxy acid peels, retinoic acid peels and so on. Your dermatologist can guide you. Any peeling treatment must be done three months before D-day.

Hollywood laser peel: Also called “spectra carbon peel”, this laser treatment stimulates collagen, evens out skin tone and helps in reducing dark spots and pigmentation. It has got its flashy name, thanks to Hollywood A-listers who go for it before a big event. It’s a gentle procedure that can be performed every other week, month, or even just once before a special event. This peel has no downtime.

The first essential step that forms the base of any skin therapy is a good beauty regimen. Start taking care of your skin to get the perpetual newly-wed glow.

Microneedling with platelet-rich plasma: To minimise signs of ageing, reduce open pores, age spots and hyperpigmentation. The expert uses a special device with needles to prick the skin and stimulate new collagen production.

Water-less Margaret Dabbs pedicure: This is ‘the’ therapy to help you put your best foot forward on your special day. Organic oil is used to pamper the feet gently. The water-less nourishing treatment can treat corns, warts, calluses, bunions, cracked feet and more.
