SUST students resume demo, claim attack from BCL

After completion of 24 hours’ ultimatum, students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) resumed their demonstration this evening with three-point demand including resignation of Sirajunnesa Hall’s provost committee.

Students started gathering at the university’s Golchattar area since afternoon and resumed their movement at around 7:00pm, reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting the protesters.

The protesters, however, alleged that activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League’s SUST unit tried to obstruct their demonstration and carried out attack in front of the proctorial team.

BCL did not provide a statement as there is no committee there.

Md Alamgir, proctor of the university, could not be reached over phone despite repeated attempts.

The students had been protesting since Thursday night with a three-point demand including the removal of the provost and assistant provost of the hall.

They postponed their demonstration yesterday and gave a 24 hour ultimatum after the university authorities relieved Professor Zafrin Ahmed Liza as hall provost following the student protest.
