Sonam Kapoor is not one to keep mum about issues that need to be spoken about. Not long ago, she also called silence a “sign of cowardice”. A go-getter on the personal and professional front, Sonam is known to take up projects that not only empower women but also weigh in on the deepest and darkest realities of life. During her acting career, she has been supportive of her female co-stars and vocal about the rights of women on several platforms. The Bollywood beauty recently had the social media world talking when she shot for the cover of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia. She shed light on her Bollywood career and what defines her choices when it comes to giving a nod to projects.
Sonam took to Instagram and shared pictures from the photo shoot for the leading magazine. She captioned on of the images, “You can’t just be the poor little rich girl or feel sorry for yourself – no. I have to make those harder choices and pave the way for other women after me. My whole team are women – and we need to lift each other up. There are thousands of years of patriarchy to cut through.” The Neerja star has long been a strong opponent of the evils of a male chauvinistic world.
She also uploaded another image of herself from the shoot. Clad in a feather dress, the style icon looks nothing short of a visual treat. The post was captioned, “For me, female empowerment is very important, especially because I’m from a side of the world where women have always been second-class citizens,” she penned. She also included an excerpt from her Harper’s Bazaar interview. “Whatever work I do as an artist has to be a reflection of my moral compass, and what I believe in speaking out about. So yeah … I do ‘strong female leads.” Sonam was last seen in 2019 film The Zoya Factor, opposite Dulquer Salmaan, which failed to create magic at the box office.
