Asked whether any particular issue was being prioritised for the appointment of chief justice, he said president has the ultimate authority.

“The president will, in his discretion, consider the person he deems fit and exercise his powers within the scope of law and the constitution,” he added.
Saying that the government is not involved in the process of selecting chief justice as per his understanding, he said, “I believe that the judges in the Appellate and High Court divisions are highly qualified. Everyone in the Appellate Division is probably qualified to be the chief justice. The president will appoint the chief justice based on the person’s qualifications.”

Regarding the formation of Election Commission, Anisul Huq said that president has started dialogue on this.

“EC will be formed as per the decision he will take,” he said.
