Sydney Man Fined $4,000 for Fraudulent Border Pass in Queensland

Police in Queensland warned Australians to complete newly required border declaration passes “honestly,” releasing footage of a New South Wales man who was fined $4,003 (about USD$2,800) for fraudulently saying he was traveling for medical treatment. The 43-year-old Sydney resident was attempting to cross the New South Wales border into Queensland on Wednesday, July 8. Police said they stopped a bus around 11 am and spoke with the passenger to verify his border pass. The man was found in possession of fake IDs and was refused entry at the border and given a fine of $4,003. Police said the man did not require medical treatment and had completed the border declaration fraudulently. Since July 3, anyone entering Queensland has been required to complete a border declaration pass in accordance with federal guidelines attempting to curb the spread of the coronavirus.
