Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder today directed the concerned officials to collect paddy from actual farmers.

“Paddy has to be collected from real farmers. We should be careful so that no farmer is harassed who comes to sell paddy,” he said.

The minister came up with the direction while addressing a virtual programme on progress review meeting of internal Boro procurement campaign 2021 at his office at the secretariat. 

He also said “We will also have to remain careful so that no farmer feels disrespected when they come to sell their crops which they earn through hard labour.”

Noting that the country has bumper yields of Boro paddy, Sadhan said the ongoing Boro procurement drive must be successful at any cost.

Instructing to collect paddy from actual farmers, the minister urged the officials of the food department to make the ongoing procurement campaign a success.

The target for this year’s Boro season is to procure 10 lakh metric tonnes of boiled rice at Tk 40 per kg and 1 lakh tonnes of at a price of Tk 39 per kg.
