COLOMBO (News 1st) – Court orders were issued to fine Rs. 4.1 million from 29 stores that sold eggs above the current maximum retail price.
The Wattala, Attanagalla, Negombo, Minuwangoda, and Gampaha courts issued the orders.
The Consumer Affairs Authority recently issued a gazette notification declaring a maximum retail price for eggs.
Accordingly, the MRP of a white egg is Rs. 44 and the MRP of a brown egg is Rs. 46.
Legal action will be taken against those violating the gazette notification, the Consumer Affairs Authority said.
