Police have arrested a man and are looking to nab three others in a case filed over raping a woman at Dharmapur union of Noakhali Sadar upazila on Sunday.
The victim filed a case accusing the four men with Sudharam Model Police Station today.
The accused are Md Rakib (25); Mamun (25), Juel (27) and Saif Uddin (28). Rakib has been arrested and the others are on the run, said police.
Rakib, of Laxmipur’s Ramgati upazila, used to drive a CNG-run auto rickshaw in Dharmapur area.
On Sunday afternoon, Rakib took the woman to a park and then to a nearby fisheries project later that evening.
There, along with three of his friends, Rakib gang-raped her and left the scene. Hearing her screaming, locals rushed there and informed police.
Police went to the spot and rescued the woman. Following the victim’s statement, police detained Rakib from his residence the same night, said Shahed Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Sudharam Model Police Station
The victim has been sent to hospital for medical tests, he added.
