No More Fried Foods At Health Ministry Canteen; Heres What The Menu Will Look Like


The Coronavirus pandemic brought with it a wave of health consciousness. People across the world are now more mindful of their health, including what they eat. It is a known fact that fried foods contain too much oil, which can increase the cholesterol level, leading to many health issues. Especially, Indian snacks also have a high spice level, which again can cause health problems like indigestion. Taking into cognizance the importance of propagating healthy eating among the masses, the apex body of health in India decided to set an example for the people of the country by following a healthy diet itself.  

Believe it or not, the Union Health Ministry of India has taken a brave step to eliminating all unhealthy food items from the menu of their office’s canteen. Out goes fried foods like samosa and bread pakora, and in comes healthy meals like dal chilla with pea stuffing, healthy curries, millet rotis, and millet pulao – all at nominal prices. Dal chilla is reportedly priced at INR 10. A meal for breakfast will cost INR 25, while lunch will be available at INR 40.

As per sources in the ministry, this action has been taken in a pilot mode as of now to see how it works and what kind of response it gets from people.  

The move is being helmed by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya himself. In fact, he had been contemplating bringing this into action since taking over his post and had also commissioned it in October last year. 

As per the ANI report, Mansukh Mandaviya is a known health and fitness buff. He is often seen cycling to the Parliament and follows a healthy lifestyle with an active workout regime. He performs exercise and yoga on daily basis and ensures that he cycles at least 20 kilometres every day.
