COLOMBO (News 1st): The National Building Research Organisation has issued a Landslide Early Warning, for Baddegama, Galle, Akmemana, Elpitiya, Niyagama, and Bope Poddala in the Galle district and Ukuwela in Matale district.

“People are advised people to be watchful on the possibility of landslides, slope failures, rock falls, cutting failures and ground subsidence, if the rain continues,” said the “Yellow” code warning issued at 1830 hrs on Friday (May 15).

The Yellow” code means the area has already received rainfall exceeding 75mm.

The Met Department has predicted that most parts of the island will receive very heavy rainfall exceeding 200mm tonight.

The Irrigation Department also issued an early flood warning on Friday evening.
