Supporters of Cox’s Bazar-01 lawmaker Jafar Alam blocked the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway protesting the decision to expel him from his Cox’s Bazar district Awami League presidential post.
Tofikul Alam, assistant police superintendent of Chakaria circle told The Daily Star that locals had blocked the road from 9:00pm and that the barricade was still in place when the report was filed on 12:15am on Friday.

“Additional police forces were deployed to avert any untoward situation”, he added.
Around 20 points of the highway have been blocked causing a long tailback on both sides of the busy road, he said.
Cox’s Bazar district Awami League today in a meeting decided to expel MP Jafar Alam from his presidential post of Chakaria upazila Awami League on allegation of his inaction on behalf of AL candidates in the Chakaria municipality polls.
Denying the allegation, Jafar Alam said he was victim of a nexus which is trying to create an evil alliance within party to exert their dominance.
No other leader of Cox’s Bazar district AL could be reached for comment.
