Babul Supriyo
The buzz in the corridors of power (a.k.a. BJP headquarters) is that singer-actor Baabul Supriyo who was minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises for the Modi government during the last regime is now expected to take over as Minister for Information & Broadcasting. Or, so it is being whispered. Babul is neither confirming nor denying the rumours. “I will do whatever Modiji asks me to. I am his loyal soldier. So if he asks me to take charge of I &B I’d happily do so.”
In the Asansol constituency, Baabul, a long time member of the BJP, defeated the Trinamool Congress candidate, actress Moon Moon Sen by more than two lakh votes. Says Babul, “It is actually a far bigger margin than my victory during the last Lok Sabha elections. It was only expected. Moon Moon Sen was a bit of a joke. She made some awful statements that exposed her ignorance. My track record spoke for itself. I remained steadfast in my determination to achieve a clean victory. When my car was attacked in Asansol, I could have lost my life. But I never allowed the game to get dirty. The maximum I did was to compose a satirical song on Mamta Didi’s party. Even that angered her. I’d say her arrogance did her in.” Moon Moon Sen was also ridiculed during the campaign on social media for some utterly bizarre statements she made.
Babul Supriyo is one among the many Bollywood celebrities who won on a BJP ticket this election. Sunny Deol too won on a BJP ticket from the constituency of Gurdaspur while his stepmom Hema Malini won from Mathura. However, Urmila Matondkar who contested from Mumbai, did not win.
