COLOMBO (News 1st); A meeting between Railway authorities and the Railway Station Masters Union is due to take place at 10:00 a.m. on Monday (26), the President of the Union, Sumedha Somarathna said.
Speaking further, he said that he hopes for a positive outcome from this meeting.
From December 23rd, station masters abstained from issuing passenger tickets and operating freight services as part of their trade union action.
They launched the strike citing several demands including the need to repair railway signals and opposing the use of broken compartments in trains.
Passengers, speaking to News 1st stated that they were left bewildered by the action;
“I came here to buy tickets. Then they said tickets will not be issued and that we can travel free of charge in third class compartments. I was wondering whether I should go. What would I do if they inspect tickets? It is hilarious to even talk about this,” a passenger stated.
