Police have detained a man early yesterday in connection with the killing of two people, including a chairman candidate of the upcoming UP elections in Brahmanbaria’s Nabinagar Upazila on Friday night.
Police detained a 30-year-old suspect for interrogation at 5:30am early yesterday, reports our Brahmanbaria correspondent quoting Md Serajul Islam, additional superintendent of police of Nabinagar Circle.
Four rounds of ammunition were recovered from his possession, added the police officer.
However, police refused to disclose the identity of the detainee for the sake of investigation.
A case is underway over the murder of 35-year-old Ershadul Haque, son of incumbent Natghar Union Parishad Chairman Abul Kashem, and 25-year-old Badal Sarkar, according to the police official.
Ershadul was supposed to run in the upcoming election instead of his ill father.
Ershadul and his aide Badal went to a religious gathering in Kurighar Bazar on Friday evening.
On their way to home, miscreants shot them leaving Badal dead on the spot while Ershadul received critical injury. Ershadul succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Dhaka yesterday morning.
