One of the biggest names in the industry for over twenty five years, Kajol has seen the Hindi film industry evolve from movies that used heroines as side characters to now when films are made to tell stories of their strength. Kajol is currently promoting her upcoming film, Tanhaji The Unsung Warrior with Ajay Devgn.

Quizzed during one of the promotional events about the ongoing debate of pay disparity between men and women in the industry, Kajol retorted, “I don’t pay much attention to pay parity. I believe that it has to do with the economics of the industry.” She went on to explain that the wage gap is dependent on the audiences’ reaction to stories. If they make a women oriented film work and make the big bucks, producers invest more in those film and thus the gap bridged.

She added, “Audience has been changing in the past few years. Slowly but surely, things are getting better. Filmmakers are making films on all kinds of subjects and they are working. The audience needs to let a women-oriented film earn Rs 200-300 crore,”
