Hefajat leader Monir Hossain Kashemi arrested

Monir Hossain Kashemi, finance affairs secretary of Hefajat-e-Islam’s central committee, was arrested by Detective Branch of Gulshan Division police last night from Dhaka’s Baridhara area.

Mashiur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Gulshan Division DB police, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

The police official said Monir Hossain Kashemi, also joint secretary general of the Jamiat-e-Ulama-e-Islam, was found to be involved in the violence in Dhaka in 2013 and in the violent activities in Narayanganj during the protest against the visit of the Indian prime minister in March this year.
