COLOMBO (News 1st); Sri Lanka’s Joint Cabinet Spokesperson Minister (Dr.) Ramesh Pathirana said pregnant public sector workers being called to work should be done at the discretion of the head of the respective institution.
Speaking at the weekly cabinet media briefing on Tuesday (02) the Minister said the matter of pregnant public sector workers being called to work was not highlighted at the cabinet meeting, however , given that the matter has been raised on various platforms, the head of the respective institution can decide if pregnant public sector workers need to report to work or not.
Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the as per the present situation everyone cannot be placed under one single framework.
‘There is a policy based decision to report to work. However, there needs to be some form of flexibility to reach decision for such exceptional circumstances, ‘he said.
