Citizenship Act (CAA) protests escalated at Jamia Millia Islamia University in Delhi over the weekend after a mob of unidentified persons, likely to be thugs, set fire to a bus and two-wheelers. The police allegedly entered the university campus and girls’ and boys’ hostels without permission, on the pretext of keeping a check on violent activities. However, as per reports, they ended up detaining, abusing and beating up the students, who lay injured around the campus, while others tried to find places to hide.
The world saw some very disturbing photographs and videos of police brutality on students protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) at Jamia Milia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University. Following which, eminent voices from Bollywood took to Twitter to condemn the act. Several actors including Ayushmann Khurrana, Rajkummar Rao, Parineeti Chopra, Alia Bhatt, along with directors like Anurag Kashyap and Alankrita Srivastava, raised a voice. Now, joining the brigade is Farhan Akhtar.
My heart goes out to all the students back home in Delhi. In a democracy like ours, its sad to see violence against citizens for voicing their opinion through peaceful protests. There should be no place for violence of any form & intent in our country. I strongly condemn this act

Urging people to gather at August Kranti Maidan in Delhi to protest against CAA and National Register of Citizens (NRC), Farhan tweeted, “Here’s what you need to know about why these protests are important. See you on the 19th at August Kranti Maidan, Mumbai. The time to protest on social media alone is over.”

Many took to social media and slammed the actor for inciting violence and spreading fake news. Another mistake pointed out by a user was that Farhan shared a wrong graphic map of India. While Mittal pointed out the law, other Twiter users pointed out that the graphic Farhan had shared had an inaccurate map of India. Soon, Farhan took notice of the same and issued an apology.
Isn’t it a criminal offence for an Indian citizen to share this map of India, which show #PoK as outside India? Why is this guy @FarOutAkhtar not being prosecuted? https://t.co/xAITjw9ya5

Farhan’s tweet read, “I recently posted a message about a protest meeting on December 19th with a repost of a graphic about the meeting. While I stand by the text, I have only just noticed that the map of India on the graphic is inaccurate. Every inch and part of Kashmir is a part of India and I reject the inaccurate map. I regret not noticing this earlier. My sincerest apologies for the oversight.”
