A family festival held in Preston raised a staggering £77,001 towards a major mosque project.

The JA Family Frestival aimed to bring communities together post Covid restrictions.

Money raised will go towards the Jamea Construction Project which aims to develop the Jamea Madressa and community centre on Clarenden Street.

The Mayor of Preston, Councillor Javed Iqbal was joined by memebrs of Lancashire Constabulary, Cumbria Police Constabulary and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service.

A spokesperson for the festival said: “The location of the venue had to be changed 72 hours before the event due to inclement weather, however, the challenge was embraced by the team.  A dedicated team was setup to clear and prepare a new site within two days; a ‘mission impossible’ was achieved.

The spokesperson said: “On the day the event attracted 1700+ customers, over 30 food and merchandise stalls in attendance, 12  attractions to thrill everyone, and we raised £77,001.00. A day everyone will remember fondly.

“The phenomenal success of JA Family Festival is a reflection of team work by our volunteers and desires to bring the pan Lancashire community together.”
