Driving recklessly, hitting rickshaw on Baily Road: School student held from Chuadanga

Police have detained a school student who was allegedly driving a private car recklessly and hit a rickshaw on Dhaka’s Baily Road — leaving a man and his six-month old injured.

A team of Tejgaon police, in association with local police, detained the school student around 3:45am from Chuadanga district, said Biplob Kumar Sarker, deputy commissioner of Tejgaon Division Police.

A 10th grader of Willes Little Flower School and College in Dhaka, they boy recently transferred to a school in Meherpur’s Gangni upazila.

Police carried out a drive after video of the incident went viral on social media. The video shows the rickshaw-puller and the passengers falling on the road after the car hit the rickshaw. They were being treated at a hospital.

Police also seized the car from Hatirjheel area today. 

The boy is being taken to Dhaka and Tejgaon Division police will hold a press conference tonight.
