Driver arrested after man killed allegedly by DSCC garbage truck

Members of Rapid Action Battalion tonight arrested the driver of a garbage truck which allegedly hit a rickshaw, killing its passenger, in Dhaka’s Wari area last morning.

The driver was identified as Md Morshed Alam, 2, Enayet Kabir Shoyeb, operation officer of Rab-10 told The Daily Star.

Police, however, said they were yet to confirm whether the DSCC truck was involved in the accident as they did not get any clear footage.

He was arrested from Jatrabari area around 9:30pm, added the Rab official.

Meanwhile, the victim’s brother Tapan Kumar Sarkar filed a case against an unidentified man of an unidentified garbage truck with the Wari Police Station last evening, said Sub-Inspector Asaduzzaman, duty-officer of the police station.

Earlier in the morning, Swapan Kumar Sarker (62) died after a garbage truck hit a rickshaw around 6:45 am at Wari. The accident took place near Rajdhani Super Market.

On November 17, a Notre Dame College student was killed when a DSCC garbage truck hit him in Gulistan.

The next day, another man — a pillion rider of a motorcycle — was crushed under the wheels of a DNCC compactor vehicle at Panthapath.
