COLOMBO (News 1st); Wildlife Officers have located the dismembered carcass of a wild elephant inside the Yala National Park.
Authorities believe the wild elephant was shot dead near the Samurdhi Wewa close to Kataragama.
It is reported that the head of the dead wild elephant was separated from its body and taken away.
In addition, it is also believed that two small tusks were also taken away.
Wildlife Veterinarian Dr. W. A. Dharmakeerthi carried out the postmortem on Sunday (15) evening and it was revealed that the poachers had also taken away the tail of the wild elephant.
