Debapriya reappointed as member of UN’s Committee for Development Policy

Eminent economist Debapriya Bhattacharya has been reappointed as a member of the Committee for Development Policy (CDP), a subsidiary body of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).

UN Under-Secretary-General Liu Zhenmin announced the reappointment of Bhattacharya, distinguished fellow of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD), on December 13, 2021, CPD said in a press release today.

The CDP is entitled to provide independent advice to the ECOSOC on development policy issues. This committee is also responsible for deciding inclusion in and graduation from the least developed countries (LDCs) group.

The new term of Debapriya as a member of CDP will be for three years, starting from January 1, 2022. He will serve in the committee in his individual capacity.
