Former Senator John ‘Wacka’ Williams says he wants to see communist China “accepting the fact that we have a free and democratic country” and the government has the right to call for an independent inquiry into COVID-19.
In recent days, China has threatened Australia’s barley industry with an 80 per cent tariff amid an ‘anti-dumping probe’.
Mr Williams said Australian farmers “would be laughing” over claims over dumping especially given the “farmers most subsidised in the world is Chinese farmers”.
On Wednesday, Foreign Minister Marise Payne played down suggestions Australia is on the brink of a trade war after China suspended imports from four abattoirs.
He told Sky News host Peta Credlin, China should “not be so precious” when the prime minister and foreign minister call for the global inquiry.
