Child among Indian family detained by BGB in Jhenidah


Border Guard Bangladesh yesterday detained a family of three from India, including a young child, from Maheshpur border in Jhenidah after they entered Bangladesh illegally.

The arrested Indian citizens are Sagar Biswas, his wife Pragya Sampat Lagade, and their young child, our Jhenidah correspondent reports quoting Mohammad Saiful Islam, assistant director of Maheshpur BGB-58 Battalion.

They were detained from Lebutola border of the upazila in the afternoon.

BGB recovered Tk 12,12,500 meant for “hundi”, mobile phones, laptops, and visa cards from their possession, he said.

BGB came to know that they were entering Bangladesh illegally through Lebutola border and conducted a raid, the BGB official added.

They hail from Basinaka area of Maharashtra, India, he further said.

When asked, the BGB official said the child would stay with the parents while they were detained.
