BIWTA suspends vessels on most river routes

Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended operations of all types of water vessels on most river routes across the country as precautionary measures centring the severe cyclonic storm “Yaas”.

The restriction will remain in force until further notice, said Rafiqul Islam, director of BIWTA, to The Daily Star.

However, operation of water transports will continue on four routes: Dhaka-Chandpur, Dhaka-Barishal, Dhaka-Bhola and Dhaka-Hularhat (Pirojpur), he added.
