An honours final year student of Dhaka University (DU) was beaten up at Jagannath Hall yesterday allegedly by a Chattra League leader of the hall unit as he did not “take part in a political programme”.

The victim, Sagor Sarker, a student of Mathematics department of the university, filed a written complaint to the hall provost against Satyajit Debnath, science and technology affairs secretary of Jagannath Hall BCL.

Denying the allegation of beating, Satyajit said he just “threatened” Sagor for not taking part in the political programme.

The victim Sagor claimed that Satyajit suddenly came to his room along with some BCL men and started beating him up.

At one stage, Satyajit dragged him out from the room, claimed the victim.

Satyajit, meanwhile, claimed that some people are hatching conspiracy against him as he is competing with them for the same post in the hall unit BCL.

“We will take steps according to rules after investigating the allegation,” said Dr Mihir Lal Saha, provost of Jagannath Hall.

This correspondent could not able to reach BCL central President Al Nahian Khan Joy over mobile phone despite repeated attempts.
