Every district town and divisional city in the country has movie theatres. Around 80% of the industry’s workforce have changed professions in the last 10 years. Most of the cinema hall owners have demolished the buildings and started developing multi-storey shopping complexes instead.

According to Bangladesh Film Producers and Distributors Association, there used to be around 1,300 movie theatres in Bangladesh. In the last two decades, the number has gone down to nearly 60.

Year after year due to a lack of investment, lack of good movies, and the global pandemic, single-screen cinema halls are now almost extinct.

On the other hand, we’re seeing a different picture with multiplexes. Investments in multiplexes are increasing. Audiences want a comfortable environment when watching movies.
