BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today said “As long as Awami League is in power, there is no reason in forming an Election Commission”.
“The dialogue game has started again. The president will call the political parties and hold dialogue. The government has destroyed the election system,” he said at a rally demanding the unconditional release of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, reports our Tangail correspondent.
Tangail district unit BNP organised the rally.
“It has been proven that elections cannot be held in a free and fair manner without a caretaker government. So, there is no benefit in this dialogue,” he said.
He also said the current government has to resign so that the Election Commission can conduct an election under a caretaker government.
The BNP leader also called upon the party leaders and workers to unite and form a movement to oust the government and release Khaleda Zia and bring back BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman to the country from exile.
“She (Khaleda) has become very ill. Doctors said she needs to be sent abroad immediately as she requires advanced treatment. But they (government) are not listening,” added Fakhrul at the rally.
