17-year-old dies after being stabbed in Narayanganj

A schoolboy died after being stabbed during a clash between two groups of teenagers allegedly over a Facebook status in Narayanganj’s Rupganj upazila last night.

The deceased was identified as Mohammad Sani (17), a class X student of Golakandail Mujibul Haque High School and son of Millat Hossain of Bijoynagar in Rupganj upazila, reports our local correspondent.

Another 17-year-old, Sayem, was critically injured during the clash.

Quoting locals, inspector Md Nazim Uddin, in-charge of Bhuluta Police camp under Rupganj upazila, said there had been an altercation between two groups of teenagers in Golakandail area around 8:00pm over posting a defamatory status on Facebook.

At one stage, the opposite group attacked Sani and Sayem (17) with sharp weapons, leaving them critically injured.

Locals rescued the duo and took them to Rupganj upazila health complex where doctors declared Sani dead, said the police official.

Sayem was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) as his condition deteriorated, he said.

On information, a police team rushed to the spot and detained two youths, who are being interrogated, said the inspector.

Inspector Nazim said, “It is unknown till now who posted the status on Facebook or what the topic was of the status. Police are looking into the matter.”

The process of filing a case in this regard is underway, added the police official.
